First, note that about 1 in 3 households (35.7%) of all households are nonfamilies - that is they are either a single person living alone, or someone living with one or more other non-related people. The remaining 64.3% of households in Herkimer County are families - related people, by birth or by marriage, living together.
Second, within each category (nonfamilies and families) there are further breakdowns. Within families you can see the overall percentage of households that are comprised of married couples or single parents. You can also see how many households within the nonfamilies are people living alone, or those living with other nonrelatives.
